Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
This policy is issued by the Michigan Referee Committee (MRC) and describes how we collect, use, and share personal information across MRC's operations — including in-person registration and clinics, phone and email communication, our website, and our mobile/web app, MRPcentral, for referees, mentors, coaches, assignors, and administrators involved in Michigan soccer officiating.
Information we collect
Registration, licensing, and officials directory information
To register and remain active as a referee, mentor, coach, NRC, or assignor with MRC, we collect and maintain information including your name, contact details (email, phone, address), USSF ID, years of experience, license/certification level, and a general geographic region derived from your address. Much of this is synced from our licensing and assigning partners (RefInsight and Assignr) and applies to the full officiating community, not only people who have created an MRPcentral account.
MRPcentral account information
When an MRPcentral account is created — by an administrator's invite, or by self-service claim against the officials directory — we store your name, email address, and license level. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier from Google; if you use a password instead, it's stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text.
Match and assignment information
Match schedules, venues, competitions, age groups, and officiating crew assignments are synced from RefInsight and Assignr to power features like Nearby Games and mentor observation records.
Location
If you grant permission, we use your device's location for two distinct purposes:
- Finding things near you — nearby matches and Foodie Guide spots — using your location only in the moment you ask, never stored as a trail.
- Live location sharing during Tournament Mode — an opt-in feature for multi-field tournaments. While you're actively sharing, your approximate live position is visible to other people currently active in that same tournament, so mentors and coordinators can see who's near which field. Sharing automatically stops after a period of inactivity, can be turned off at any time from the tournament screen, and is not kept as a history — only your latest position is stored, and it's deleted the moment you stop sharing or the tournament ends.
We separately store a general, city-level geocoded location for officials in the directory (not live tracking), derived from their listed address, used to show a general service area.
Push notifications
If you enable notifications, we store a notification token (a browser Web Push subscription, or a native device token via Firebase Cloud Messaging) to deliver alerts about new Week in Review posts, new Clip Discussion posts, changes to your expense report status, and Tournament Mode activity (field alerts, consult requests, and a reminder if your live location sharing has paused). You can disable notifications at any time.
Content you submit
Expense reports and receipts, mentor performance feedback and observations, Clip Discussion posts and responses, Foodie Guide reviews and edit suggestions, payment requests, and suggestions or issue reports you submit are stored so the relevant staff and administrators can review and act on them.
Basic app usage
We keep a basic record of how MRPcentral is used — which pages you visit, when you log in, and a small set of key in-app actions (like submitting feedback or logging an observation) — tied to your account, so MRC administrators can understand how the app is being used and improve it. This is for internal program administration only; it isn't shared outside MRC and is never used for advertising.
Regional assignor coordination
When you're newly added to the officials directory as a referee, we may notify your district's volunteer assignor coordinator(s) by email — sharing your name, city, and district — so they can begin including you in game assignments. This applies whether or not you have an MRPcentral account.
How we use this information
To run MRC's core operations: registering and licensing officials, coordinating match assignments and mentor observations, processing expense reimbursements, keeping officials informed, and — through MRPcentral specifically — showing nearby matches and coordinating tournament-day logistics. We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell it.
MRPcentral app & website specifics
MRPcentral is available as a website and as native Android and iOS apps built from the same codebase; functionality and data practices are the same across all three unless noted otherwise. The native app requests two device permissions — location (see above) and notifications (see above) — each requested only when you use a feature that needs it, never in the background. MRPcentral does not request camera, contacts, or microphone access.
Who we share it with
We don't share your information with advertisers or data brokers, and we don't sell it. The parties who process data on our behalf, or who we share specific information with, are:
- Google — for "Sign in with Google," and for delivering push notifications to the native Android/iOS app via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Mailjet — for sending account emails (invites, password resets, notifications).
- LocationIQ and OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — for converting addresses and coordinates into map locations and place names.
- RefInsight and Assignr — our licensing and assigning systems; information flows both directions to keep officiating records and match assignments current.
- Your district's assignor coordinator(s) — see "Regional assignor coordination" above.
Within Tournament Mode, your name and (while sharing) approximate live location are visible to other people actively participating in that same tournament — not the general public, and not other MRC officials outside that tournament. None of the providers listed above are permitted to use your information for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
Data retention
We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active or you remain part of the officiating community, and as needed for MRC's recordkeeping (e.g. officiating history, expense reimbursement records). You can delete your own MRPcentral account at any time from Profile → Delete account once signed in, or by contacting us at the address below. Deleting your account removes your login and app profile; your underlying officiating history (assignments, mentor feedback, license record) is a separate MRC record and isn't affected.
Basic app usage records (pages visited, login times, tracked in-app actions) are kept for up to 180 days, then deleted automatically.
Security
Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, not plain text. All traffic between your device and MRPcentral is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to administrative functions is restricted by role.
Children's privacy
MRPcentral accounts are limited to mentors, coaches, NRCs, and administrators — roles that require being certified as an MRC mentor, which in turn requires being 18 or older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through the app, and no MRPcentral account holder is a minor.
Separately, our officials directory includes basic license and program records for the full officiating community synced from RefInsight, including referees under 18 — this is directory data only, with no MRPcentral login involved. For anyone under 18, MRPcentral does not display or share direct contact details (email, phone) beyond their name, city/state, and official program history (assignments, mentor observations). Only MRC administrators, in the course of managing the officiating program, can see full contact details for any official regardless of age.
